The Łı́ı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́ First Nation Community Justice Program supports individuals, families, and the community through restorative, culturally grounded approaches to justice, healing, and conflict resolution.
The program works closely with the RCMP, Crown and Defence Counsel, courts, schools, and community partners to provide alternatives to the traditional justice system where appropriate, while helping individuals address underlying challenges and strengthen connections to community supports.
Diversion & Restorative Justice
The program provides diversion opportunities for eligible youth and adults involved in the justice system. Diversion focuses on accountability, repairing harm, and supporting positive change without the long-term impacts of criminalization where appropriate.
Alternative measures may include:
- Community service
- Restitution to victims
- Personal service or apology to those harmed
- Participation in healing or wellness programming
- Cultural or land-based activities
- Restorative justice conferencing
Victims are encouraged to participate in the process and have input into outcomes whenever possible.
Justice Navigator Program
The Justice Navigator Program provides voluntary, client-centered support to individuals who are involved in, or at risk of becoming involved in, the justice system. The program recognizes that many individuals face underlying challenges such as addictions, mental health concerns, housing instability, trauma, poverty, and barriers accessing services.
The Justice Navigator works alongside clients to identify their goals, build wellness plans, and connect them with supports and services that can help reduce further involvement in the justice system.
Support may include:
- Court and justice system navigation
- Referrals to treatment and recovery supports
- Housing and income support referrals
- Advocacy and case management
- Help attending appointments and accessing services
- Safety planning and wellness support
- Collaboration with probation, health services, schools, and community agencies
The program is voluntary and focuses on building trust, strengthening protective factors, and supporting long-term wellness and stability.
Pathways to Housing
The Pathways to Housing Program supports individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness by providing transitional housing and case management supports focused on long-term stability and wellness.
The program works with clients to identify barriers that may be impacting their ability to maintain housing, including addictions, mental health concerns, financial challenges, and involvement with the justice system. Through individualized support planning, clients are connected with services and resources that help build independence and improve overall wellbeing.
Supports may include:
- Transitional housing support
- Housing applications and advocacy
- Life skills and goal planning
- Referrals to treatment, wellness, and recovery programs
- Income support and employment referrals
- Assistance accessing identification and services
- Ongoing case management and wellness check-ins
The goal of Pathways to Housing is to help individuals move toward safe, stable, and long-term housing while strengthening the supports needed to maintain it successfully.
